چکیده

The control of placental hormone biosynthesis is critical during gestation, since their coordinated action is essential for the normal progress of pregnancy. Hormonal synthesis regulation in placenta is still not elucidated and differs from that observed in other steroidogenic tissues since specific tropic hormones have not yet been identified. Cellular localization of growth factors in the placenta, including VEGF, EGVEGF and bFGF, points that these factors have additional roles in the organ besides their well known modulation on cell proliferation and angiogenesis. In vitro experiments bring new evidence that growth factors play regulatory roles modulating processes related to steroid hormone secretion in the placenta. Importance of local estrogen function has been highlighted and a key enzyme for its synthesis is aromatase cytochrome P450. The objective of this review was to describe some aspects of placental steroidogenesis, mainly focusing on aromatase cytochrome P450 steroidogenic enzyme expression and growth factors as others potential modulators of hormonal synthesis in the organ.

I-7: Maternal Signalling to the Placenta

Background: Though it is well established that maternal blood-borne signals influence highly the growth of the placenta, the mechanisms are not known. In vitro trophoblast culture models are limited by an inability to reconstruct the polarised bilayer of the human hemochorial placenta. We have used a first trimester villous tissue explant system to investigate how growth factors interact with p...

Comparison of the Effect of Bovine Platelet Lysate and Platelet Rich Plasma as Growth Promoters on Growth Rate and Viability of Different Cell Lines

Background: Cell therapy and cell culture have received much attention in recent decades. Suitable cell growth requires growth supplements such as fetal bovine serum (FBS). FBS is component rich in nutrients, growth factors and supplementary compounds. However, FBS utilization has some limitations including mass production. Therefore, finding alternatives with the same growth promoting effects ...

Bimodal inhibition of connexin 43 gap junctions decreases ACTH-induced steroidogenesis and increases bovine adrenal cell population growth.

In order to elucidate the role of gap junctions in adrenal cell responses, we measured the effect of inhibiting gap junctions with 18-alpha glycerrhetinic acid (GA; a potent inhibitor of cell-cell communication) and connexin antisense transfection on cell proliferation and adrenocorticotropin (ACTH)-stimulated steroidogenesis. In these experiments we utilized a bovine adrenocortical cell (SBAC)...

Research Article: In vitro investigation on response of cultivated hepatocytes from Klunzinger\'s mullet, Liza klunzingeri, to temperature and fetal bovine serum

The appropriate temperature and growth supplementary factors such as fetal bovine serum (FBS) are the necessities needed for cell growth in culture medium. In this regards, the effect of Leibovitz-15 (L-15) medium containing different concentrations of fetal bovine serum (FBS) was assessed on growth and proliferation of cultivated liver cells of klunzingerchr('39')s mullet, Liza klunzingeri, in...

Effect of EGF on development of bovine embryo cultured in G1/G2 sequential media

The nutritional requirements of mammalian embryos changes throughout pre-implantation period, coincident with changes in the secretion of the female reproductive tract. Therefore, it has been suggested that sequential culture media may support nutritional requirements for optimal growth of the mammalian embryos. In this study, we investigated the effect of two different concentrations (10 or 10...
